Synthesis Report 2026: TOGETHER AGAINST ANTIGYPSYISM ONLINE (TAAO)
The Digital Landscape of Hate and the Unseen Struggle: A European Multi-Country Analysis of Online Antigypsyism.

This European multi-country study (2024 to 2025), Together Against Antigypsyism Online (TAAO) in Europe, examines anti-Roma racism and hate speech in digital spaces. Specifically, the research focuses on this form of online hate speech across Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. The study was conducted by 30 young Roma monitors who documented 3,147 cases of online hate speech and analysed 54 detailed case studies.

The study has a strong European dimension and brings together six national organisations from Germany (Amaro Drom), the Czech Republic (ROMEA), Slovakia (Roma Advocacy and Research Centre, RAVS), Hungary (Romaversitas), Romania (Nevo Parudimos), and Bulgaria (Integro Association), alongside one European umbrella organisation, the European Roma Grassroots Organisations Network (ERGO).

Central to the study is the finding that online antigypsyism is widespread, increasingly sophisticated, and largely inadequately addressed by digital platforms and existing reporting systems.

This is not simply a report about offensive comments online. Its broader argument is clear: digital antigypsyism normalises prejudice, shapes public opinion, and can fuel offline discrimination and violence. The report frames online anti-Roma hate as a systemic democratic and human rights issue, rather than merely a content moderation problem.
