INACH-ODIHR/TnD Workshop on Monitoring and Taking Action on Hate on the Internet, Warsaw 13-15 May 2005

On 13-15 May the International Network against Cyberhate (INACH) and ODHIR's Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Programme held a workshop on Monitoring and Taking Action on hate on the Internet in Warsaw at the ODIHR's office. The workshop was aimed at new hotlines/complaints bureaus for discrimination on the Internet in the Eastern part of the OSCE region.

The aim of the workshop was to train potential hotlines/monitoring NGOs in taking action on on-line hate and monitoring and ultimately becoming part of the INACH network.

Following Subjects were covered:

10 participants from 7 countries took part in the workshop (Poland, Moldova, Russian Federation, Belarus, Romania, Slowakia and Latvia). Every participant received the INACH 'HowTo' CD-rom with practical information, tools, software, tips and helpfiles and a database for the processing of and reporting on complaints and monitored sites.

At the end of the workshop the 10 participants filled out evaluation forms. All participants rated the workshop as excellent, 9 participants stated that they would want to become an INACH member, one participant stated that this would possibly be the case. 9 Participants want follow-up in any form while one said he would possibly want this.

Most participants will interact and support each others learning process from now on through a special mailing list INACH facilitates for this purpose.

As a direct result of the workshop, the Moldovan participant YHCA started operations as a complaints bureau at the end of July and is now a candidate-member of INACH. We expect more of the participants to follow.
